Radio Broadcasts Information Page MUSIC NOW Music Now was heard on WXEL-FM, a southern Florida NPR affiliate based in Boynton Beach, FL, from January 2003 until its cancellation in October 2005. A one hour monthly segment of Joanna Marie's "Classical Variations", it was intended to introduce Florida listeners to the most recent developments in the field of contemporary classical music. The following is a listing of the content of those programs and some final comments. In the near future I hope to re-establish a traditional radio broadcast and I will also be investigating an internet radio broadcast as well. That statement has reflected the gist of what has been presented on this segment over the past two and a half years. We've heard music from 22 countries by 63 composers, representing a kaleidoscopic variety of styles and topics.* The program has intended to show that serious music is alive and well in this culture in spite of the forces that continually attempt to destroy and demean it. It was hoped that you, the listener, might be stimulated to find out more about these artists and become active participants in the world of contemporary serious music. You can read my reviews of this material in American Record Guide (.com) and I invite you to check out my website (allengimbel.com) [presently under construction] for further information." * Breakdown of countries represented, followed by number of works: U.S. 30, England 6, China 3, Finland 3, Estonia 2, Poland 2, South Africa 2, Spain 1, Argentina 1, Scotland 1, Canada 1, Latvia 1, Georgia (USSR) 1, Japan 1, Germany 1, Ireland 1, Burma (Myanmar) 1, Turkey 1, Iran 1, Sweden 1, Israel 1, France 1 |
